The MessMate guard adds them.

Not sure it'll fit? Measure straight across the top of your pet's bowl. Seven to nine inches and you're fine. If you'd rather not measure — or your bowl is an odd shape — the bowl and splash guard set arrives already matched, so the fit is guaranteed.

The guard is one piece of food-grade, chew-safe silicone. Flex it, seat it inside the rim, press the edge down. The raised wall catches food and water on the way out and drops it back into the bowl. It works on stainless steel, ceramic and plastic bowls, and on food and water alike.

If the bowl sits against a wall, this is also what stops paint and baseboards taking the damage — water displaced over the rim is most of what reaches the wall. (More on protecting the wall behind the bowl.)

Lift it out and run it through the top rack of the dishwasher when it needs cleaning.
